The much-awaited development scheme is already being hailed as one of Bahrain's major projects, as it heralds radical changes in terms of creative designs, innovative planning and modern architectural techniques, making the Island an unrivalled oasis of luxury and comfort.

Strategically located near Bahrain Financial District on Northern Manama beachfront, the Island project site has become an ant-like colony - with more than 1200 workers - as the project proceeds upbeat.

Work on the foundations represents a cornerstone in the multi-phased project as it paves the site for the upcoming stages. Reef will rank high among the key luxury projects with its unique designs and large open green areas.

Apart from the tower, the residential buildings, which cover some 40 percent of the allocated land, are low-rise, thus forming a distinctive environment laden with picturesque views that ensure a comfortable standard of living.

"The project is progressing according to plans and work on the first phase is proceeding steadily,"

the Island's project manager, Mr. Waleed Hayek said.

"Work on the infrastructure component, which kick-started early August 2006 is expected to be completed in April 2008," he added.

The infrastructure phase includes irrigation, electricity, roads and sewerage and telecommunications networks. Sewerage water would be used for irrigation of the green areas which will cover an approximate 60 percent of the Island.

The construction of buildings, villas and beach villas also started last August and is expected to be completed by June 2009.

The aesthetic aspects of the project make it an icon of luxury, and attract investors and customers looking for a high standard lifestyle. Those aspects include large green spaces, luxury flats and villas, five-star hotel, a superb resort and spa, in addition to the Marina, parks and other facilities which ensure a healthy environment, quietude, and low levels of pollution.

The Island is gathering momentum as a flux of Bahraini, GCC and European investors have rushed to book up to 55% of the housing units to date.

"These investors found in the project an oasis in the heart of the city which embodies their desire for a luxurious lifestyle," Mr. Hayek said confidently.

Reef Island is an artificial island located on Northern Manama beachfront, adjacent to Seef area which is witnessing an unprecedented real estate boom. The 579,000 square metre development will host 39 residential buildings, 65 villas and 49 beach villas, in addition to a five-start hotel a shopping mall, lakes and gardens.
