Acer Computer, the world's third largest IT vendor, has announced a 38.9% year-on-year growth in 2007 for sales in the Europe, Middle East, and Africa (EMEA) region, while the market growth was only 15.7%.

The global IT vendor attributed its positive performance to a new strategic direction focused on strengthening its channel business model and mobility, enterprise, and convergence related technologies.

In the EMEA region, Acer holds the number one position for notebooks with a market share of 20.9% and year-on-year growth of 45.3%. In the region's largest market, Saudi Arabia, Acer is the leading notebook vendor with a market share of 24.4% and year-on-year growth of 22.3%. In the UAE, Acer holds number 2 position overall with 18.2% market share and stands at number 2 position for notebooks, growing 30% year on year with 19.2% market share.

The 2007 EMEA growth figures has been provided by independent research firm IDC, and the research group places Acer as the number two IT vendor for EMEA with a market share of 12.8% up from 10.6% in 2006.

"The region's IT market is not just expanding, it is increasingly becoming more demanding, especially in the most competitive area, mobility. Our customers expect leading-edge technology, and our number one position across the region is a reflection of the great product portfolio Acer introduced to the market in 2007," said Emanuele Accolla, Vice President, EMEA and Managing Director for META region.

"Acer has identified three macro areas on which to focus: mobility, convergence, and enterprise. Technology is always being reinvented, and Acer believes in being the first to offer stat-of-the-art and innovative technology to its customers."

The dynamics of the regional market are changing, and in the UAE the market in particular is more lifestyle focused and Acer's product have been popular.

The Gemstone, TravelMate and Ferrari range of products have been very well received, said Krishna Murthy who is now the Deputy Managing Director for the Acer Computer, Middle East, Turkey and Africa (META). Previously Murthy was the general manager for Acer Computer, Middle East.

"Acer's focus is on making available innovative and leading international technology to its Middle East customer ahead of other vendors," said Murthy. "Acer is a brand with great traction in the region, and we firmly believe in empowering our customers."
