UAE to add more smoking cessation clinics
- United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, February 27 - 2008 at 07:50
The UAE plans to expand the number of smoking cessation clinics that have been set up by the Ministry of Health in partnership with Novartis Consumer Health. The move follows a study by researchers at the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta that shows that greater investments in tobacco cessation programmes are independently and significantly associated with larger and more rapid declines in adult smoking prevalence. Dr Wedad Al Maidoor, Head of the Smoking Cessation Committee, MoH, said the study shows that greater funding for smoking cessation clinics and higher prices for cigarettes can effectively reduce smoking among adults.
