PB managing development of 108-story tower in Dubai

PB has been named Project manager for the Burj Al Alam Tower, a 501m, 108-floor building which is to be the worlds 5th tallest, under development in Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
The Burj Al Alam Tower (or World Tower in English) will have a total built up floor area of approximately 450,000 m2.
The tower structure will be mixed-use with approximately 70 percent dedicated to office and retail space, with the balance comprising of an exclusive 5 Star hotel with serviced apartments and rooftop spa. Occupying the top 30 floors of the tower, the hotel will be the highest in the world upon completion.
The tower will rise from an 11 floor Podium/Retail building incorporating 4 floors of Shopping Mall and space for 4500 cars, all under cover.
The tower structure has been designed with a Reinforced Concrete Core and Structural Steel Floor beams supporting reinforced concrete floor slabs, with an average footprint of 2500m2 for each floor. The tower is clover leaved in plan and hour glass shaped in elevation achieving an elegant flower-like profile, further enhanced by an opening petal design at the crown. The structure will be clad in a unitised curtain wall design framework with a blue glass finish.
As Project Manager PB will be responsible for monitoring and managing the procurement of Specialty Consultants and Contractors, monitoring and reporting on cost and budget, developing and maintaining a strategic master programme, risk and Value Engineering services, assisting the Client / Consultant team with document control and Construction Management including the implementation and support of an effective HSSE policy, QA/QC, and logistical planning. Ground works and piling commenced on this Multi Billion Dirham Fast Track project in Jan 08.
