The announcement was jointly made by both the companies on at Gulfood expo.

'In line with Al Islami's consolidated strategy to position Dubai as a standard in frozen meat market segment in the Middle East, we have accelerated our efforts to provide our consumers with high quality meat at the retail level', said Saleh Abdullah Lootah, CEO, Al Islami Foods.

'It has been a persistent demand from our consumers to provide them with fresh and credibly healthy meat, which has encouraged us to set up meat shops at their doorsteps. The consumers can now buy with confidence the real halal, fresh and nutrient meat from Al Islami outlets in the major Emirates of the UAE', he added.

'After careful feasibility of the market, we have chosen Union Cooperative Society where Al Islami will establish meat shops', Saleh Lootah added.

The tie-up between Al Islami Foods and Union Cooperative Society also underscores the success of Al Islami's business strategy for the UAE market as part of company's five-year expansion plan into local and international markets.

Sourced directly from Australia, Brazil, India and Egypt under the supervision of Al Islami's food experts designated in these countries, fresh and real halal veal, beef, chicken and mutton would be available at AI Islami Meat Shops present at major supermarkets across the UAE by end 2008.

Earlier, Al Islami established five meat outlets at Al Ain Cooperative Society.

About Al Islami Foods:
Established as Co-Op Islami in 1981 to cater to the growing demand for halal food in the Arab world, Al Islami Foods was formed as a result of the long relentless efforts commenced in the early seventies when Hajj Saeed Bin Ahmad Lootah instituted Dubai Co-operative Society.

Starting with its successful frozen chicken product line, Al Islami Foods further expanded its operations to include processed meat.
In 1991, Dubai Co-operative Society's efforts were culminated by establishing its 'Co-Op Islami' meat processing plant in Jebel Ali Free Zone. This plant is considered a recognizable breakthrough as it became the real producer of a variety of food products under the name 'Co-Op Islami'.

In 2006, Co-Op Islami was re-launched as Al Islami Foods in an effort to propel the company to new heights of success. Now, Al Islami Foods products are considered as a quality benchmark trusted by consumers across the UAE and the GCC, and this has made it one of the best and most preferred brands in the region.

About Union Co-op:
The Union Co-Operative Society was formed in 1982 by people of the land who wished to contribute towards the welfare of society and its growth. It seeks not to realize the highest profit, but to rather provide its members with assistance, unlike profit institutions. This has resulted in increased productions, improved quality of goods and reduced sale prices, improving living standards and increasing national income. Proving to be a lasting testimony to the power of unity.
