- PRESS RELEASE
The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) is participating in the 7th International Conference for Ports & Coasts Management & Engineering in Developing Countries and Showcase as a Golden sponsor that takes place from 24th to 28th February and held under the theme 'Optimum Practices in Coastal Environment'.
Dr. Al Zahid reviewed in his work paper the key challenges facing the future of Marine Transport in the emirate of Dubai as a result of the massive demographic growth witnessed by the emirate dictated by the phenomenal progresses made at all economic, commercial, financial, real estate, tourism and other vital sectors; a matter which warrants serious efforts to develop long-term plans and unleash strategic initiatives to forge the intended integration of all public transport modes.
He stressed the vital role played by the Marine Agency in implementing, expanding and developing an integrated water transport network, based on the vision of the RTA to provide safe & smooth transport for all. A feasibility study is currently being conducted under which a number of marine transport services will be introduced between the mostly congested and busy areas and other emirates.
"The RTA Marine Agency is contemplating introducing several types of water transport modes to serve various categories of the community in various geographical zones. Such modes include the Water Taxi; which is currently being designed by the RTA, is viewed as an optimum solution for individuals hailing from various business sectors and families intending to move from one water front to another, providing all privacy and convenience. There is also the Water Bus, which has been launched recently and is viewed as an ideal mode for those seeking an express means of transport within the congested old and new areas between the two banks of the Creek. Additionally there are other transport modes, which are an ideal mode for commuting between medium and long distances from one point of work to another within the internal water lines, and from land to the man-made islands," he explained.
RTA is taking part in the accompanying Showcase through a stand to focus on a number of strategic projects undertaken by the RTA in general, and marine projects & the Water Bus in particular. RTA stand attracted huge numbers of visitors and representatives of various international companies operating in the field of coastal engineering.
He concluded his statement by saying: "This premier event is another addition to the impressive record of Dubai; which already boasts several expos and conventions representing various commercial, economic, service, real estate and other vital sectors. It will also enhance the profile of Dubai as a distinctive commercial, tourist and economic hub, and a point of attraction for investors and businessmen from countries around the globe.
