Umniah wins First International Human Resources for Telecom Award

Umniah, a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain and the latest provider of mobile telecom services in Jordan, announced that it has won the GSM Association Global People Initiative Award, part of the GSMA Mobile Innovation Awards category.

The event that took place at the GSMA Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona between the 11th and 14th of February.

As announced by the GSM Association, 'the Award for Enabling Innovation through Human Capital & Talent practices recognizes the Mobile Operator which has created and implemented best practices promoting an environment where innovation is encouraged, facilitated, rewarded and above all, achieved.'

The prestigious award was presented to Umniah for its People Reward entry, which featured the company's people strategy and in particular its total reward program.

Umniah's total reward program includes its performance-based compensation & benefits system, as well as systems used for measuring employee engagement and satisfaction and for attaining higher levels of both.

In a statement made by the CEO of Umniah, Mr. Joseph Hanania said, 'I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the employees at Umniah who have made the accomplishment of such an international feat a possibility. This achievement highlights the emphasis that Umniah places on its rich human capital of Jordanian minds and on setting international best practices for which it has received universal acknowledgement from the largest telecoms society.'

In the conclusion of the winner's presentation made by Umniah's HR Director, Sami Jarrar, at the Global People Initiative, he said, 'We'd like to thank the GSM Association, and we are honored to be the first mobile operator to receive GSMA's Human Resources accolade, the Global People Initiative award. This recognition reflects the great progress that Umniah has made in creating and executing strategies for developing human resources, which has led to the realization of Umniah's huge success in only a few years of its operation.'

'The Mobile Innovation awards category is part of our recently launched Mobile Innovation Program, a global initiative tied to our awards program that provides a unique showcase of the tremendous range of innovation that exists in the mobile world,' said Mr. Rob Conway, CEO of GSM Association.

'These prestigious Awards - the 'Oscars' of an industry that serves a third of the world's population - represent a stage for all players in the mobile world to attract the attention of their peers and the global media in and around our international community. They also provide opportunities to thank customers, employees, partners and investors,' Conway concluded.
