Dubai Realty Developer Trident International Holding reinforces commitment towards global fight against cancer
- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, February 28 - 2008 at 11:59
- PRESS RELEASE
Having successfully completed six years of participation in the Terry Fox Run to create awareness about the dreaded global health malady of cancer, Dubai real estate developer Trident International Holding and its affiliate company Appella International SA, an acknowledged leader within the global watch industry, today announced that they would be participating in next year's edition of this run as well.
Earlier, on 15 February 2008 approximately 260 employees of the two companies, their families and friends participated in the annual run organized by Terry Fox Foundation, which was held under the auspices of the Canadian Consulate in Dubai.
The annual event is aimed at raising funds for cancer research, through donations from participants and corporations.
What started as a quest of one individual, the 18 year old Terry Fox, to raise one dollar from every Canadian through his journey that he called the 'Marathon of Hope' on 12 April 1980, has today successfully raised over $360 million worldwide.
All funds raised in Canada support cancer research and are distributed by The National Cancer Institute of Canada. All money raised outside Canada must be either (a) distributed to an institute approved by the NCIC and the Terry Fox Foundation or (b) remitted to Canada.
On May 26, 1988, The Terry Fox Run became a Trust, independent from The Canadian Cancer Society, and received tax-exempt charitable registration as a public foundation under Section 149.1 (1)g of the Income Tax Act.
The annual event continues to be known as The Terry Fox Run; the structural organization is known as The Terry Fox Foundation.
The Terry Fox Foundation strives to keep the heroic effort and integrity that Terry embodied alive, while recognizing the duality of its mandate. Not only does it raise money for research, but it also continues to share the story of Terry Fox. Terry died of cancer in June when he was 22.
