The exclusive session marked the end of a two-month campaign by Standard Chartered - a platinum sponsor of the (recent) Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, the biggest sporting event in the UAE capital - which has seen over 50 students attend free golf clinics at the Abu Dhabi Golf Club.

Five schools from across the city took part, including Al Worood School, the American Community School, Al Yasat Private School, Al Manhal Private School and the Special Care Centre Abu Dhabi.

"We view our sponsorship of the Championship as a way to promote golf here in the capital," said Jeremy Parrish, CEO, Standard Chartered Abu Dhabi & Al Ain. "The response has been outstanding and we wish to continue our work with young golfers in the future."

"We believe in giving back to the communities we operate in and the golf clinics enabled us to do just that by allowing us to offer something distinctive to students in Abu Dhabi."

Poulter was first recognised for his talent when he won the Italian Open in Sardinia, Italy and ended his first season in 2000 by winning the Sir Henry Cotton Rookie of the Year award. He has since gone on to compete in and win many tournaments with his latest competition being the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship, and is now ranked 22nd in the world.

"It's vital that participation in sport is emphasised and encouraged in children, and I'm a firm believer in supporting golf at the grassroots level," commented Ian Poulter.

"For me, being involved in the school golf clinics was an especially great way to get involved with the local community and coach some of the stars of tomorrow."
