Carl Lewin, innovation centre manager, Intel GCC said:

"Over the past few years the matter of environmental conservation has gained increasing prominence for both governments and companies looking to minimize the environmental footprint of their operations by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, use of renewable power and investing in water conservation strategies," commented. Our participation in today's forum is testimony to our ongoing commitment to invest in tomorrow's leaders as we introduce new ways in which technology can help in creating climate saving initiatives, whilst additionally delivering increased PC and server energy-efficiency."

Energy saving and environmental practices are at the forefront of Intel's policies, ensuring that products reduce negative environmental impact, while maintaining the highest levels of processor performance.

In 2007, Intel started to produce 45-nanometer chips that deliver industry-leading energy-efficient performance and come from the most advanced manufacturing process incorporating environment-conscious lead- and halogen-free design. Additionally, the company recently topped EPA's Green Power Partner List by becoming the largest purchaser of renewable energy credits in the United States.

Intel is also a founding member of the Climate Savers Initiative, which strives to reduce computer power consumption by 50% by 2010 in a collective industry effort cutting CO2 emmissions by 54m tons per year.

"Education is one of the most powerful tools of changing mindsets and behavior modes and by creating awareness at the Women in IT Conference we will help promote global environmental sustainability through the adoption and use of sustainable technology. If the leaders of tomorrow are equipped with the right tools, knowledge and know-how, we can opt for a more environmentally friendly future," concluded Lewin.

The annual Women in IT Conference was established in 2005 as a platform to provide DWC students and students from other UAE colleges with the opportunity to meet key industry players and discuss significant issues related to the role of IT. This year, the conference focused on 'green IT' and sough to explain the importance of this issue, encouraging students to implement change through viable technological solutions.
