  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, February 28 - 2008 at 14:55
  • PRESS RELEASE

Global marine terminal operator DP World today announced the appointment of Flemming Dalgaard as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of its Europe and Russia region, and Anil Singh as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of its Africa region.

Mr Dalgaard joins DP World in April from Maersk Line, where he is currently UK and Ireland Managing Director. During his twenty year career with the giant Danish shipping company, he has worked around the world, including in Africa, the Middle East, Europe and the Far East. He has also worked on various marine terminal projects for Maersk Line in Germany, China and the UK.

Captain Singh joined DP World this month from Thailand where he was Group CEO of Laem Chabang container terminals B1 and A0, a joint venture between APM Terminals, PSA and Marubeni. Previously, Captain Singh held senior management roles with P&O Group Sydney. Captain Singh has been in the maritime industry for 35 years, spending his earlier years at sea. As well as Thailand and Australia, he has also worked in Papua New Guinea and in India.

CEO Mohammed Sharaf said:

"We are delighted to welcome Anil and Flemming to the team. Anil brings a wealth of experience in our industry to his new role, while Flemming's global experience and extensive career with one of our largest customers will be invaluable as we continue to focus strongly on providing excellent service to our customers, expanding to meet their needs."

Mr Sharaf said the regional responsibilities had changed with the appointments, with three of DP World's eight operating regions reorganised to reflect the company's growing business in Russia and Africa.

The former Europe & North Africa region now encompasses Europe and Russia under Flemming Dalgaard while Anil Singh's Africa region now encompasses all of Africa except Egypt.

The newly acquired DP World Sokhna, Egypt, is now part of the Middle East region, headed by Captain Faisal Al-Qahtani, who joined the company in 2007.
