IFTDO conference begins today

Global leaders in training and development will address approximately 1,500 delegates from 30 countries when Dubai hosts the annual world conference of IFTDO - the International Federation of Training and Development Organisations - for four days starting today at the city's international convention centre.

The 37th IFTDO conference will be held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and the presence of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai who will address the opening ceremony.

This year's event which will be under the theme of 'Knowledge and Human Resources' and hosted by Dubai Police Academy will focus on four main topics: knowledge creation and human resource management, fast forward technologies in education and training, socio-economic trends, and knowledge work environments.

Speakers include H.E. Sultan Bin Saeed Al Mansouri, U.A.E. Minister of Economy, and Lt General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim, commander-in-chief of Dubai Police, whose topic will be 'Knowledge creation and human resource management - strategies for development of knowledge workers in a police department.'

The conference will also be addressed by Dr Abdulla Al Karam, director general of Dubai's Knowledge and Human Development Authority, and Dr. Mansour Al Awar, vice president, e-TQM College.

International speakers include Dr. Charles Savage, President & Mentor -Knowledge Era Enterprises International, Allan Schweyer, President and Executive director - The Human Capital Institute.

"The theme of 'Knowledge and Human Resources' reflects the Dubai Government's vision of being a world leader in knowledge-driven economies," said Lt General Dhahi Khalfan Tamim.

"Knowledge has become a major enabler for economic development in Dubai, enhanced by a special formula that combines economic freedom with openness to the world."

The congress will place special emphasis on the Middle East's specific needs for training and development.

IFTDO was founded in Geneva in 1972 and is a diversified network of human resource management and organisations that represents more than 500,000 professionals in 50 countries.

Only member countries can bid for the world congress and Dubai's bid was based on the efforts made by Dubai Police affiliated Security & Administration Science Institute (SASI) established in 1997 to provide training, development, and consultancy services to various types of government authorities and public sector employees and a member of the IFTDO since 2004.

Brigadier Dr. Mohamed Ahmed Bin Fahad, Director General of Dubai Police Academy and 2008 President of IFTDO Board commented: "Hosting IFTDO's world conference and exhibition underlines Dubai Police's focus on training and development according to global performance standards."
