- PRESS RELEASE
The meeting focused on TRA's planned actions for the purpose of achieving the government policy and aims outlined in the second National Telecommunications Plan.
The second National Telecommunications Plan outlines the Government's overarching vision for the telecommunications sector in the next three years. The Government, through the Second Plan, requires TRA and other authorities to achieve specific objectives, including, among others, greater involvement of consumers and businesses, promoting investment, and promotion of the use of Internet and broadband. The Government objective to continue the development of competition is of significant relevance to the result of Strategic and Retail Markets Review, which were announced last week
In refining regulatory actions, TRA has taken into account the objectives of the second National Telecommunications Plan, in order to ensure that they are fully consistent with and support the achievement of the policy objectives expressed by the Government.
TRA's General Director Mr. Alan Horne praised HE Sheikh Ahmed bin Attiyatallh Al Khalifa on the release the second National Telecommunications Plan by saying "TRA welcomes the vision of the Government to ensure that the telecommunications sector plays a major role in developing the national economy. TRA will continue to remove all barriers faced by telecommunications operators, such that they are able to improve and develop competitive services for consumers in Bahrain in terms of quality, range and prices. Introducing number portability, call by call carrier selection and improving wholesale terms are just some of the measure in hand. ".
