Umniah wins the GSMA's Global People Initiative Award

Umniah, a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain and the latest provider of mobile telecom services in Jordan, announced that it has won the GSM Association's (GSMA) Global People Initiative Award, part of the Mobile Innovation Global Awards , which took place at the Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona between the 11th and 14th of February 2008.
The prestigious award was presented to Umniah for its People Reward entry, which featured the company's people strategy and in particular its total reward program.
Umniah's total reward program includes its performance-based compensation & benefits system, as well as systems used for measuring employee engagement and satisfaction and for attaining higher levels of both.
In a statement made by the CEO of Umniah, Mr. Joseph Hanania said, "I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of the employees at Umniah who have made the accomplishment of such an international feat a possibility. This achievement highlights the emphasis that Umniah places on its rich human capital of Jordanian minds and on setting international best practices for which it has received universal acknowledgement from the largest telecoms society."
At the winner's presentation made to Umniah's HR Director, Sami Jarrar, he said, "We'd like to thank the GSMA, and we are honored to be the first mobile operator to receive the Global People Initiative Award. This recognition reflects the great progress that Umniah has made in creating and executing strategies for developing human resources, which has led to the realization of Umniah's huge success in only a few years of its operation."
The GSMA's Chief Commercial Officer, Bill Gajda, added, "We are thrilled with the number of high-quality entries we received this year for the Mobile Innovation Global Awards. Our congratulations to Umniah and all the winners and participants for making the Awards and the Mobile Innovation Marketplace in Barcelona a great success."
