Kidney foundation marathon to go global

The success of the UAE-sponsored Zayed Memorial Healthy Kidney Event - a 10km race in New York - has prompted the National Kidney Foundation to enlarge that single event into a global series, reported Gulf News. Stephen Pajarti, CEO of the National Kidney Foundation (NKF), said the inaugural race, which is held in Central New York during the second or third week of May, in 2005 had about 2,200 runners, but this grew to 7,200 in 2007. Organizers plan to hold future races in Cairo, Beirut and London with the series culminating in the Zayed International Marathon in Abu Dhabi.
