The agreement will pave the way for the two institutions to collaborate on a number of areas in service of higher education. The agreement includes possibilities to collaborate in scientific research, academic programs and faculty and student exchange.
The agreement was signed by HH Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al-Nahayan, Chancellor of UAE University, and Dr. Mary Sue Coleman, President of the University of Michigan.
“The UAE is determined to continue in its drive to build institutions that provide world-class education and contribute to the production of knowledge,” said HH Sheikh Nahayan. “The UAE University looks upon this agreement as a strategic partnership in scientific research and the delivery of academic programs that serve society,” he added.
The University of Michigan has a number of programs that are very highly ranked. For example, in graduate education, its engineering school is ranked number 4 and its business school is ranked number 10 in the USA by US-News and World Report magazine. In addition, almost all of its social sciences departments are among the top 5 in the USA.
“I am delighted by the opportunity to visit the UAE University and to learn about its many accomplishments and ambitious plans. I am confident with the signing of this agreement that the discussions we are about to begin will result in important collaborations that will enrich both our institutions,' said President Coleman.
Also attending the signing ceremony was Dr. Abdullah Al-Khanbashi, Vice Chancellor of UAE University. “We are very pleased to look at partnership opportunities with the University of Michigan and look forward to implementing this agreement to the benefit of both institutions, especially in the area of Masters and Doctoral studies, “said Dr. Abdullah. “This is the beginning of an important partnership for UAE University with one of the world’s top universities,” he added.
During their stay in the UAE, Dr. Mary Sue Coleman and her delegation will visit the UAE University in Al-Ain and tour its new facilities including the new College of Information Technology building which houses some of the best laboratory and classroom teaching facilities in the world. They will meet with university administrators to begin to discuss the many possibilities for collaboration outlined in the agreement signed today.
UAE University and University of Michigan sign cooperation agreement
The University of Michigan Ann-Arbor, considered to be one of the top ranked universities in the USA, and the UAE University which was recently ranked number one in research in the Gulf and number two overall in the Arab world by the OIC (Organization of Islamic Conference), have signed an agreement for cooperation.
