People Plus and the Nautical Institute launch 'Leadership Throughout'
- United Arab Emirates: Sunday, March 09 - 2008 at 15:50
- PRESS RELEASE
People Plus and the Nautical Institute haved launched 'Leadership Throughout', a practitioner's guide to leadership, recently in Dubai.
The book was commissioned by the Nautical Institute, with the support of the UK Maritime Forum which includes the Royal Institute of Naval Architects and the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers. Aimed at managers and supervisors in any industry the book is written in two parts. The first describes why leadership at all levels is an essential component for ongoing success and the second describes how to develop a set of skills that enhance personal leadership capability.
Asked why he wrote the book Richard Jeffery said that he had a three fold message that he wanted to share. "First, leadership is an acquired skill that should be made available to much wider audience than is the case today. Second, it should be developed, trusted and mobilised at all levels for organizations to have a successful and sustainable future." Jeffery continued with his third point "Too many senior managers think they are smarter than they are - they need to listen to the calls for change. Displays of solitary leadership modeled around the dated Command and Control concept have no place in today's rapidly evolving world."
Parker, who is the Publishing Director at the Nautical Institute, added that since the book was released in the UK a few weeks earlier one major cruise line had already decided to adopt it as the core manual for the training and development of the onboard supervisory and management staff. This was a precedent which he expected others to follow.
The author is cofounder and Managing Director of People Plus FZ LLC, a Leadership Development Consultancy based in Dubai Knowledge Village.
