The college has implemented the first 8200 core switch in the entire Middle East. The implementation has been operational since November 2007.

The new switch, enabling high-availability core competence, demonstrates HP ProCurve's Networking commitment to HCT's sophisticated educational environment aimed at empowering the students and faculty with the latest technology.

It also offers HCT best-in-class support as the 8200 is the only core switch in the industry with a lifetime warranty, which is also offered on most ProCurve products1.

Commenting on the implementation, Ivan Kraemer, Regional General Manager, HP ProCurve Networking Business says: "The new switch at HCT reiterates our commitment to the regional education sector and is testimony to our growing focus of powering the institutions with the best-available technology. The 8200 switch allows complete interoperability with other vendors and solutions such as IP telephony and further augments HCT's teaching and learning environments. ProCurve is poised to take the education sector to the next level by providing solutions that bring students closer through proactive networking focused on innovation."

The solution is running on a converged network that integrates other applications in use at HCT, helping it to maximize returns on its current infrastructure and at the same time adapting to its future needs.

In his comments, Dr Tayeb Kamali, Vice-Chancellor of HCT, said: "The Higher Colleges of Technology prides itself to be on the forefront and to be on the leading edge of technologies thus providing its students with unique opportunities to familiarize with the latest and the best technologies. The roll-out of the new infrastructure demonstrates our commitment with proven and dependable networking solutions such as ProCurve to collaborate on new generation technologies to deliver a constant stream of advanced services and solutions to enrich the teaching and learning experience of our students and faculty."

Being fully compliant to industry standards, the solution allows HCT to have full interoperability with third party vendors and solutions.

Furthermore by deploying Gigabit Ethernet to the desktop, HCT can fully utilize the bandwidth for the rollout of its multimedia applications.
