RTA's 'Drive For Results' Campaign a success

The 2,100 public bus drivers that attended the 'Drive For Results' safety awareness training, conducted by international training experts RogenSi, have praised the initiative and feel more confident about transporting passengers along Dubai's 62 bus routes.
"The Drive for Results Campaign achieved a great deal of success and has been very useful in both theoretical and practical terms. All of the drivers have been incredibly enthusiastic, and are now committed to perform to the best of their abilities in the Dubai roads. The training will help to improve the performance, safety and efficiency of public transport in the Emirate with drivers adhering to all rules to better service passengers," said Essa Abdul Rahman Al Dosari, Committee of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of the Public Transport Authority (PTA).
Terry Reynolds, Managing Director of RogenSi commented "We believe that this training will have a positive impact on not only safety on Dubai's roads but also driver confidence. We have a created a solid model that can be utilised for every drive on the emirate's roads.
With the UAE population growing rapidly year by year road safety has never been more important, so for drivers' to be taught how to access the skills that they have already learnt more efficiently everyone will benefit," said Terry Reynolds, Managing Director of RogenSi.
Mohammed Abdullah Jim a trainer and driver with 15 years experience in the UAE said; "The training is an excellent idea and delivers a programme that will help improve safety for both drivers and passengers. The campaign is good for both public and private drivers as safety awareness is necessary whether one is riding a bicycle or driving a car."
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and its strategic PTA unit are expanding the public bus fleet considerably over the next year and inline with its commitment to 'providing safe and smooth transport for all' the 'Drive For Results' training has been designed to enhance the drivers' skills to achieve this.
Speaking after the training session bus driver Abdul Nasser commented that "the training was an extraordinary experience and incredibly useful. The lecture was easy to understand and I already feel more confident about driving in Dubai."
The bus network currently covers 35% of the emirate and will rise to 60% by the end of 2008. The campaign focused on enhancing the skill set that all public drivers' acquire during the compulsory three month training course.
