QHSE section receives 'Clean up the World 2007' award

  • United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, February 20 - 2008 at 12:32
  • PRESS RELEASE

In recognition of their sincere efforts and outstanding contribution that created a huge impact on making the 'Clean up the World 2007' successful, the Dubai Municipality honored the Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE) section of the Rail Agency in the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The necessary precautions are taken to protect the environment during construction and the Quality Health Safety and Environment (QHSE) closely monitors and studies the effect of these activities on the environment on short and long term basis. Environmental audits to determine the level of environmental performance attained by the construction contractor, and sub-contractors, across the range of facilities currently under construction including rail stations, sections of track, and depots are conducted regularly.

Eng. Abdulmajid Al Khaja, CEO of Rail Agency said, " The Rail Agency has asked the contractor to prepare the Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) for both the Red and Green line before commencement of the projects and the course of action is undertaken under RTA's guidance and supervision."

"We are glad to honor the QHSE team of the Rail Agency with the award in appreciation of their incessant efforts of keeping the environment in and around the construction sites of the Metro project free of environmental hazards. Their contribution is outstanding and we hope they keep up with their efforts." said Mr. Abdullah Rafe'ea, Deputy Director of Public Health Department in Dubai Municipality.

"The Dubai Metro is one of UAE's most prestigious projects which will further enhance the Emirate's image globally. It is our duty to protect Dubai from any damage and thus during construction the contractor has been asked to take all the possible precautions to protect the surrounding environment. This not only ends at the construction sites, but also while manufacturing and delivering the rolling stock and during operations. It is the stringent policies and the practices that the QHSE has enforced which have led to the success of the 'Clean up the world campaign', "concluded, Al Khaja.
