Dow surges on central bank move

The Dow Jones surged more than 416 points on Tuesday after the Federal Reserve said it plans to inject $200bn into the financial markets to help ease the credit crisis, reported AP. It was the index's largest one-day point gain since July 24, 2002. Other markets reacted well to the Federal Reserve's move. The FTSEurofirst 300 closed up 1.28% at 1,270. Top gainers included HSBC, which rose 2.7%; Spain's Banco Santander, up 3.3%; and Royal Bank of Scotland, which surged 4.5%.
