UAE to launch SMS weather alerts
United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, March 12 - 2008 at 08:08
The UAE has announced that it will soon begin sending SMS alerts to motorists regarding adverse weather condition, reported Khaleej Times, citing an official at the National Centre of Meteorology and Seismology. The decision came following a major road accident on Shaikh Zayed Road in Ghantoot on Tuesday, involving nearly 200 cars. The official said the alerts will help motorists plan their routes and prepare for weather conditions accordingly. The messages will caution people regarding bad weather conditions, stormy winds, sea tides and other weather-related precautions, he said.
