Dubai Real Estate Institute to offer programme on strategic urban design

Dubai Real Estate Institute (DREI), the first specialised real estate institution in the region, today announced registration for its programme on 'Creating Successful Developments through Strategic Urban Design' which will take place in the period from 16-19 March.

The programme will be jointly conducted by Professors Philip Allmendinger, Director of Centre of Planning Studies in the Department of Real Estate and Planning, University of Reading, and Mathew Carmona, Professor for Planning and Urban Design, and Head of Bartlett School of Planning in University College London.

Designed for participants working in property development, government, real estate planning and other related industries, the programme will provide an integrated understanding of key concepts, frameworks, tools and innovations in urban design that can be applied to strategic planning as part of the development process and to ensure sustainable, aesthetic, functional and innovative urban design.

Dr. Mohamed Al Shehhi, Managing Director of DREI, said: "As one of the key components in any real estate development, it contributes to shaping the physical setting for life in future developments as it involves the design of buildings, groups of buildings, spaces and landscapes. The aim of this course is to strengthen the competencies required to think strategically when dealing with urban design issues. It will involve the combination of creative and analytic skills, aesthetic confidence, and professional competence.

"The professors will bring their extraordinary course specific academic excellence and industry expertise to the programme. Participants can use the opportunity of the programme to gather further insights into their extensive research for delivering better-quality built and natural environments."

The world class course will focus on the framework for placing urban design in a strategic context; urban change and the contents for urban design; characteristics of urban space design; dimensions of urban design; implementing urban design in areas such as land and property development; and the control process in public intervention design and appraisal.

The programme is the first of its kind in the Middle East in terms of content and focus. Certificates from DREI and the Reading University will be awarded to participants upon successful completion of the programme.

All academic and executive training programmes at DREI are offered in partnership with internationally accredited universities and real estate training centres.

The executive education programmes are held at the state of the art DREI campus in Building 53, Dubai Healthcare City, which is equipped with facilities designed to provide a productive learning environment.

About Dubai Real Estate Institute
