Harris Corporation awarded broadcast system contract to equip Taj TV's Ten Sports Channel in Dubai

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, March 04 - 2008 at 11:23
  • PRESS RELEASE

Harris Corporation an international communications and information technology company, has received a contract from Taj TV in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, to provide a wide range of broadcast solutions for its Ten Sports channel and other client channels in Dubai.

The contract win comes on the heels of several other new Harris Broadcast Communications contracts for interoperable workflow solutions in the Middle East — including Kuwait Television, Saudi Television and Digiturk.

Under the Taj TV contract, Harris will provide a range of equipment from across the Harris HD broadcast product portfolio, including the NEXIO XS™ video server platform, VelocityNX™ HD promotions craft editors, and an expansion to an existing H-Class™ D-Series™ playout automation system.

"NEXIO XS™ servers and VelocityNX™ editors were chosen after careful evaluation of all major competitive systems," said Steve Halis, vice president of operations, engineering & MIS, Taj TV Ltd. "The ability to easily customise the configuration and deployment of server and storage resources according to our immediate and future requirements was one of many aspects that pushed the Harris solution to the front of the pack.

"Furthermore, we anticipate significant workflow improvements over our legacy systems and expect to expand the system rapidly according to the demands we are experiencing in this region," continued Halis.

Designed on a software-based codec model, the NEXIO XS™ server platform enables back-to-back playout of multiple formats on every channel and is able to encompass new codecs the moment they become available. It provides an extensive range of I/O types, integrated applications support and encode options, including long GOP MPEG-2 at SD and HD resolutions, DV25, DV50 and IMX. Integrated into the NEXIO™ storage area network (SAN), VelocityNX™ enables editing of native HD and SD content (both 720p and 1080i) directly from the NEXIO™ shared storage architecture. A member of the H-Class™ family of interoperable media software applications, D-Series™ provides comprehensive real-time ingest and playout automation capabilities for enterprise-level, multichannel operations.

Harris Broadcast Communications provides products, systems and services that deliver interoperable workflow solutions that span the entire broadcast delivery chain. The Harris ONE approach brings together highly integrated and cost-effective products that are ideal for emerging media business models and for customers upgrading media operations to digital and high-definition services.
