DTCM educates top sales force of Star Alliance about Dubai

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing utilized a major airline industry event in Germany to promote Dubai as an ideal year-round business and leisure destination in key markets.

Over 350 top sales managers and other key managers of airline association "Star Alliance" participated at the annual Lufthansa Corporate Forum 2008 in Frankfurt on February 15.

Member Airlines of Star Alliance are Lufthansa, Swiss, Singapore Airlines, Thai Airways, United Airlines, and All Nippon Airways.

Mr. Hamad bin Mejren, DTCM Director Mission, who addressed the gathering, said:

"This was a great opportunity to educate major players in the airline business about Dubai and its ambitions in tourism and commerce domains. Ideally, we aim at converting these airline sales managers into Dubai sales managers".


The opening was made with an Arabian night and entertainment evening followed by the different presentations during the next day. Mr. Hamad and Ms. Mara Kaselitz, Director of DTCM's Overseas Representation Office in Germany, presented various Dubai hotel vouchers to the winners of the raffle during the evening event and highlighted the outstanding quality of Dubai's hospitality industry.

The Lufthansa CEO, Mr. Wolfgang Mayrhuber, and Executive Vice President Marketing & Sales, Mr. Thierry Antinori, participated thanked the DTCM for their participation and support.

Mr. Wolfgang Mayrhuber said the massive development in Dubai is highly impressive and helping them market and sell Dubai as one of the most attractive tourist destination.

In his presentation about Dubai to the audience, Mr. Hamad outlined the importance of Germany as a key European market for further tourism and business development of Dubai.

Mr. Hamad said the number of German visitors to Dubai hotels and hotel apartments is picking up again to the tune of 260,750 in 2007 while the number of German passengers through Dubai has also shown upward trend.

Highlighting the branding of Dubai, Mr. Hamad pointed out that the number of Tour Operators featuring Dubai in Germany has registered significant increase of 34 % last year.

During the two day event, DTCM had his own stand promoting Dubai to all participants and visitors of the sales fair.
