- United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 13 - 2008 at 14:28
- PRESS RELEASE
In its continuing efforts to develop the Western Region and its people, the Western Region Development Council (WRDC), in partnership with the Civil Services Department, the UAE Armed Forces and the Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage (ADACH), have announced the first joint initiative to provide students in the Western Region with a scholarship programme to complete their higher education.
The WRDC has forged partnerships with those entities wanting to make such a vision into reality.
Together, they will ensure that the top students of the Western Region are offered a unique learning opportunity, wherein course fees are paid and a monthly allowance is provided by the programme.
H.E. Mohamed Hamed Al Mazrouei, WRDC Director General, said: "We are delighted to announce this initiative for our region's top students, providing them with the opportunity to excel in their chosen career path without the worry of financial expenditure. We realise that higher education comes at a price and we wanted to develop a programme to ensure that our top students do not miss the chance to continue into higher education."
The initiative is one of many developed by the WRDC in line with its strategic vision and long-term goals to build, attract and retain a highly qualified workforce in the region.
The Council aims to achieve this by supporting economic growth and developing a skilled, motivated and highly productive workforce that embraces change.
The WRDC aims to build its local talent through educational and vocational training such as the student scholarship programme and other training initiatives due to be announced soon.
"Firstly, I would like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our partners; the Civil Services Department, the UAE Armed Forces and the Abu Dhabi Culture and Heritage (ADACH) for helping us to provide this opportunity to our students. Secondly, on behalf of WRDC and our partners, I want to wish the students the best of luck in their pursuit for higher education. We look forward to the day when they return to the Western Region, or even WRDC, on completion of their scholarship programme to assist us in developing our region. And most importantly, to help us provide our future generation with even better job opportunities," concluded Al Mazrouei.
The top students being offered the scholarship programme will be announced through the media in the coming weeks.
After just 18 months in operation, WRDC is continuing to make significant progress in the region by implementing such landmark initiatives - making a difference to WRDC's number one priority - the residents of the region, delivering right on their promise.
