The partnership is intended to enhance network security and performance management for remote and branch office (RBO) environments.

The combination of Cymtec Sentry and the SmartFilter internet filter database provides an additional level of security to solutions such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and anti-virus software. This innovative unified RBO protection provides a simple, cost-effective method for preventing the uncontrolled spreading of infections that overcome perimeter and host defenses.

Nimer Ghazal, Regional Sales Manager, Secure Computing, said,

"Web reputation is vitally important to RBO network security. Integrating the SmartFilter SDK, Cymtec Sentry now provides customers with one of the industry's most complete, efficient and up-to-date reputation-based Web filtering engines."

"Cymtec Sentry's DTP engine with the SmartFilter Internet Filter Database offers enterprises with remote or branch office environments, a new layer of protection to keep their networks secure and running at optimal performance," said Andrew S. Rubin, President and Chief Executive Officer, Cymtec Systems.

RBOs face increasingly dynamic and sophisticated threats as the Web 2.0 environment continues to constantly evolve. Web content changes on a daily basis, with millions of Internet users posting various contents to Web sites. Organizations normally focus their security measures on their central offices, leaving their remote and branch offices vulnerable to breaches.

Cymtec Sentry's reinforced DTP engine combines the already impressive features of its Cymtec Sentry and Secure Computing's SmartFilter to create a single, powerful engine that scans all traffic passing through a Cymtec Sentry appliance to detect and block malicious network traffic. SmartFilter allows organizations to understand and monitor internet use while implementing the necessary measures to provide appropriate control over outbound Web access. The engine removes offensive content, minimizes legal liability, manages bandwidth, and protects against threats such as spyware and malware.

SmartFilter includes global data from Secure Computing's industry-leading reputation system, TrustedSource, as part of the company's vision to provide companies of all sizes with comprehensive security at the Web gateway. TrustedSource produces source-based reputation scores for uniform resource locators, domains, and Internet protocol addresses, in addition to content-based reputation scores for Web page content, messages, attachments and images. SmartFilter uses real-time scoring to enable organizations to detect and block security threats such as spyware, phishing and other malware.

Terrence Brewton, Research Analyst, Frost & Sullivan, said, "Market demand for comprehensive web security continues to grow as enterprises face an onslaught of Web-based threats. However, traditional protection measures are no longer sufficient. With the constantly changing threat landscape, it is critical that businesses look at solutions to protect them from not only known threats, but unknown threats as well. Secure Computing and Cymtec Systems remain a step ahead with their combined solution and Web 2.0 protection capabilities."
