The Grand way to pamper yourself

Located in the heart of the emirate, the Grand Hyatt spa offers exactly what you need to disconnect from your busy schedule - at least for an hour or so.

The Grand Spa comprises an exclusive leisure and exercise complex, situated on the lower ground floor of the hotel, and includes six treatment rooms, relaxation areas, two squash courts, gymnasium and a 20-metre indoor lap pool.

The Spa offers a wide range of body treatments including its signature Arabian Cocoon Body Wrap (Dhs580), which was made for the Grand Hyatt Dubai. This 90 minute treatment involves a series of steps to exfoliate, detoxify, massage and moisturise the body with a variety of exotic sandalwood extracts.

Friendly staff

Upon arrival the spa's reception desk you are greeted by the friendly staff and given a health form to fill out, which asks if you have had any previous injuries or operations in any part of your body that could be painful if massaged. Next are a set of questions on which part of your body would you like the masseuse to spend more time on.

After the form is completed you are given a crisp clean white cotton bathrobe, flip flops and a locker key. Despite the changing room's serene ambiance it was rather small and if you are uncomfortable with changing with other spa guests being present, the tiny bathroom is your only choice.

Once you enter the treatment room, relaxation is restored. The small room was lit with white candles that were placed on the counter opposite the massage table. If you listen closely you could hear the faint sounds of pan flute music playing in the background and smell a hint of sandalwood aroma in the air.

The first part of the treatment starts with soaking your feet in warm water with rose petals and while I was doing that my masseuse told me that she had given treatments to Arab celebrities that have stayed at the Grand Hyatt including Lebanese pop diva Elissa and Egyptian pop singer Sherin Abdel Wahab.

She then went on to explain that the Arabian Cocoon treatment I was receiving was mainly greased towards brides before their wedding night, as it can help ease the tension before the big day and leave him with faultless soft skin.

After your feet are soaked, you are given a gentle foot massage. Next you are asked to lie down on the massage table, where you have a 15 minute massage using Jasmine Neroli oil, which is both relaxing and helps improve circulation. The masseuse makes sure to pay close attention and allocate extra time to work on your tension spots you mentioned while filling in the form.

This is followed a head-to-toe exfoliation with our Royal Sandalwood Body Polish, which is a thick scrub warmed in a microwave. The sandy grains help remove all excess dry skin and impurities.

The mixture is both rich in texture and has a hot of sandal wood fragrance which filled up the room. After rinsing the scrub in a warm shower, which is attached to the massage room, you can instantly feel your skin feeling softer and having a healthy rosy complexion.

The second step of the treatment is applying the traditional Moroccan spice and yoghurt mask which detoxifies and conditions the skin.

Cocoon

This mixture is applied using a soft brush and you are then wrapped within the cocoon of heated blanket, which was set to a perfect temperature - if you have sensitive skin you can opt for a milder temperature. The blanket helps remove excess water in your body and help the mask absorb into your skin.

After, you take a second shower followed by the final step - applying a soothing sandalwood and vanilla silk lotion to give your skin a soft and cool feeling. By the end of the treatment your skin will look more relaxed and vibrant and smelling of fresh vanilla and sandalwood.

You can continue your relaxation session by reading a magazine on one of the long chairs located just outside the treatment room. But one thing for sure you will defiantly be looking forward towards paying this luxury spa another visit.
