Abeer Al Omar, Assistant Vice President of Corporate Communications at KIPCO commented:
'This event has been a huge success for Kuwait and helped achieve our objectives of significantly raising awareness of the challenges individuals and their families can face through dyslexia. We are delighted at the number of people who have attended and participated in the conference including so many of our local educators and experts who want to know more about dyslexia and its treatment. Also, the importance of the issue has been further demonstrated by our ability to attract many international experts on dyslexia who have shared with us the implications and characteristics of the disability and advanced methods of treatment'.
In 2007, KIPCO and Al Masharee Al Khair undertook the sponsorship of the Dyslexia Awareness and Media Campaign which has included an extensive public awareness campaign that used a variety of media including TV and print to illustrate the problems faced by those suffering from dyslexia.
The campaign is aimed at reaching educators and parents in order to highlight the implications and distress that many sufferers of dyslexia often encounter.
This media awareness campaign is the first of its kind in Kuwait and in the region.
'We are very happy with the successful impact of the first Dyslexia Screening and Assessment Conference' said Mohamed Al Qatami, President of Kuwait Dyslexic Association. 'Being the first association to have managed an event of this size, we see that this Conference marks a significant step towards educating ourselves about dyslexia and introducing wider understanding of this condition to our communities in order to overcome it' he added.
Mr. Al Qatami, President of Kuwait Dyslexia Association, also said that the Conference has successfully shed light on a problem that has existed in our schools and communities for some time.
Sponsoring this event has given the Kuwait Dyslexia Association, KIPCO and Al Masharee Al Khair a chance as concerned organizations to discuss and work through possible solutions and treatment for dyslexia sufferers in Kuwait.
Kuwait Dyslexia Association was primarily responsible for organizing the Conference and program as well as managing to bring together the global experts and specialist who were featured at the event.
In association with Masharee Al Khair, KIPCO was the exclusive sponsor of the Conference as it continues its efforts to support the dyslexia awareness campaign.
The Dyslexia Screening and Assessment Conference is a two-day event that invited educators from around Kuwait to participate in workshops and lectures given by specialists from the United Nations, Ministry of Education and the Kuwait Dyslexia Association.
