A senior UAE official said vehicle theft in the country is on the decline due to to effective effective measures taken by UAE customs authorities, reported Gulf News. Khalid Khammas, Executive Director at the Customs Compliance Division of Dubai Customs, said 6,556 cars were screened in the UAE in 2005, which led to the seizure of 460 cars. In 2007 only 16 cars were seized after the inspection of 3,098 cars. These figures show organised crime moved away from the emirates, he said.
