A senior official said the number of people in Oman who are seeking Internet connections is rising sharply due to the country's e-government initiative, reported Khaleej Times. Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Al Wahaibi, Chief Executive Officer of majority state-owned Omantel, said the number of Internet subscribers jumped 12% during the 12-month period ending February 29 - from 93,668 to 104,928. Wahaibi also said Omantel was investing more than RO7 million to expand the broadband service by installing 180,000 high speed lines across the country which, he added, would boost the digital society goal.
