The focus of the event was to introduce students to the work and services of the Career Development and Employer Relations team which provides information, advice and guidance on career planning, occupational choices, potential employers and the job search process.
Over 800 students and graduates participated in the event and registered their interest in part-time and summer work.
Each day of the event, employers were on the ADWC campus to meet with students and discuss potential career options.
Rather than having several employers available at one time, each employer was given a specific day to hold a booth in a strategic, high traffic area in order to have access to as many students as possible.
Companies taking part in the event included Sorouh Real Estate, Union National Bank, Microsoft, Bid Capital, Al Fahim and Shangri-La Hotel.
'This was the first time we used the 'Company Days' approach rather than formal presentations and career fairs,' said Jane Tatterton, ADWC's Career Development and Employment Coordinator. 'All of the employers were impressed at how focused and determined our students were in developing their work skills, and each employer took CVs from students to review for further consideration.'
Mr. Mohamed Al-Marzouqi, HR and Administration Director for Sorouh Real Estate, expressed the company's interest in working more with ADWC and providing employment opportunities for students. 'We are looking for students who are serious,' said Mr. Al-Marzouqi. 'We're not just offering a job; we're offering a career. We look for the 'ABCs' -- attitude, behavior and character - when we consider potential employees. In return we treat them well, pay them well, and provide a family-oriented and welcoming environment.'
In addition to having direct access to potential employers, students also had the opportunity to have their CVs checked by a Career Advisor.
Students were given one-on-one advice on how to present professional CVs, as well as tips on how to have a successful interview.
'We can already see an increase in the use and awareness of the Career Resource Centre,' said Ms. Tatterton. 'We want to make sure students are given the advice and guidance they need to help them transition into the workplace.'
