'Towards a safer airport environment' with ADAC and IAFPA

Abu Dhabi Airports Company's ongoing commitment to observe and implement the highest international safety standards has once again been highlighted with its commitment to become principle sponsor of the first International Aviation Fire Protection Association's conference to be held in the Middle East.

IAFPA was formed in 2000 with the aim of bringing about closer co-operation between airports, municipal and military fire and emergency services in order to enhance all aspects of rescue and fire protection at international airports and has already held conferences across Europe, Asia and Australasia.

"IAFPA - UAE is set to be the key event for all aviation safety personnel in the Middle East region and attending delegates can be sure that they will strengthen their understanding and co-operation on a wide range of aviation fire and safety issues,"


said H.E. Khalifa Al Mazrouei, Chairman and MD of ADAC and opening speaker at the conference.

With the conference theme "Towards a Safer Airport Environment," key topics to be discussed will include; Airport Emergency Planning; Airport Fire Protection Levels; Medical Emergencies; Challenges facing the Airport Fire Services in the future; International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) Standards; and Aircraft Disaster Recovery Plans.

A line-up of key industry speakers from the UK, Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Middle East will include BAA's Owen Healy, a veteran in military and civil aviation fire safety, Dr Mark Leung, Senior Medical Consultant, Singapore General Hospital, Adrian Lim, an Operations Planning Officer with Changi Airport Emergency Service, Patrick Leung, an Operations Officer from Hong Kong's modern Chek Lap Kok airport, as well as Greg Janelle, Emergency Response Manager for Etihad Airways and Lachlan Thurston, Chief ANS Regulations with UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

IAFPA - UAE will run from 25-26 March 2008 at the Hilton - Abu Dhabi. A pre-conference cocktail reception will be open to delegates arriving on the evening of 24 March from 7pm, and a gala dinner will be held on 25 March.

Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC)

Abu Dhabi Airports Company, ADAC, is a public joint-stock company wholly owned by Abu Dhabi Government. It was incorporated by Emiri Decree number 5, of March 4th, 2006, to spearhead the development of the Emirate's aviation infrastructure.

ADAC has officially taken over the operation and management of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain international Airports, as of 28/09/2006. Under its mandate is the re-development and expansion of Abu Dhabi International Airport, which includes the new midfield terminal designed to increase the overall capacity of the airport to 20 million passengers by 2011.



International Aviation Fire Protection Association (IAFPA)

The IAFPA was formed in 2000 by a group of airport / municipal fire service professionals and industry specialists as a professional and fraternal association of international airport, municipal, and military fire and emergency services professionals to promote the information exchange, study, and improvement of aircraft rescue fire fighting and airport facility fire protection.

The IAFPA believes that through closer personal interaction of worldwide airport, municipal and industry specialists we can foster and enhance all aspects of training and operational procedures dealing with aircraft rescue and airport fire protection. Through the IAFPA we will offer our support and technical expertise to each other and international aviation regulatory agencies.

The IAFPA will work closely and cooperatively with other international aviation fire / aviation passenger safety organizations as a resource for their mission(s), and to offer our technical expertise, support, and assistance to promote improvements in matters that affect aircraft fire / passenger safety.

The IAFPA is not an organization to represent its members in collective bargaining or matters relating to salaries, working conditions, or disciplinary matters. Through membership in the IAFPA, no member is bound by any course of action.

IAFPA membership is open to all members of airport, municipal, military, industrial fire and emergency services and aviation safety personnel. Through our international membership, the IAFPA's goal is to foster a climate a fraternal friendship, professional respect and mutual cooperation, and to enhance our knowledge of each others professional roles and during an aircraft accident or airport fire / emergency.
