UAE to sell state-owned utilities
United Arab Emirates: Wednesday, March 19 - 2008 at 07:48
The UAE plans to sell power and water assets controlled by the Federal Electricity and Water Authority (FEWA) to help manage soaring demand, according to a statement by the Federal National Council. FEWA supplies power and water to the four northern emirates of Ajman, Fujairah, Umm al-Qaiwain and Ras al-Khaimah. The council, which is an elected body that advises the government, did not specify the impact of its plans on prices for residents of the northern emirates, saying only that several council members had expressed 'concern' about price control policies, reported Bloomberg.
