Gulf states to keep dollar pegs, says HSBC

Simon Williams, HSBC's chief economist for Gulf markets, said Gulf states are likely to maintain their currencies' dollar pegs this year, despite arguments in favour of change, reported Bloomberg. He said the Gulf is likely to keep the status quo in 2008 regarding the dollar peg, but it is 'bracing itself' for more cuts to US interest rates, which will bring Gulf rates even further below the rate of inflation.
