Continuing professional development program for AUST's Faculty of Dentistry staff

A continuing education seminar was held in Ajman for the Faculty of Dentistry staff members in Ajman University of Science and Technology and Private Dental Practitioners.
The seminar focused on the significance of stringent infection control in the health care arena in general, and in dentistry and oral health care in particular.
A staff from Oroclean Chemie AG, a leading disinfectant manufacturer from Switzerland, highlighted the microbiology in a dental office and elaborated on the choice and relevant disinfectant selection for instruments, surfaces, hands, aspirating units and dental impressions.
The seminar also reviewed the current requirements of the International Medical Devices Regulations regarding Infection Control, as well as the side effects of alcohols and chemicals present in all disinfectant products.
Dr. Salem Abu Fanas, Dean of Faculty of Dentistry, reiterated the importance of a stern infection control protocol in the oral health care industry.
'With all the growth and development around us, it is extremely essential that we firmly adhere to a tested and implemented infection control protocol in our daily dental practices in order to overcome the constantly growing challenges and threats of cross-infections', said Dr. Abu Fanas. He also emphasized the value of such events for the professional advancement and progress of the faculty staff in order to keep them abreast with other dental institutions worldwide.
It is worth mentioning that the seminar was organized in collaboration with Professional Medical Equipment, a leading supplier of medical, dental, laboratory and scientific supplies in the Emirates.
