The campaign was successfully conducted by LG Electronics in partnership with Maktoob.com, the leading online Arab community and covered all countries in the Middle East and Africa region.

Due to the overwhelming response to the campaign, LG plans to organise further events to honour winners in Amman (Jordan), Halab (Syria), Al Ribat (Morocco), Giza, Cairo and Alexandria (all in Egypt).

The increasing number of social networking websites are attracting more and more Arab youth, thus creating the fastest growing online medium in the region. LG is building on this emerging phenomenon by making the campaign fun and interactive while stimulating creativity among the Arab youth.

The new campaign which started on February 9, will run until May 9, 2008 and is open to all individuals from across the Middle East and Africa.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young people across the region to connect and communicate with each other & demonstrate their talent,” explained Mr. K. W. Kim, CEO of LG Electronics Middle East and Africa Regional Company. “The website has been specifically created to attract the youth of the region and the interactive campaign is a great way to bring creative-minded people together'.

Last year’s successful “Be a Star with LG” contest had only three competitions which were conducted online.

This year, LG expanded the scope of the campaign by including four categories in which participants can contribute by uploading their Memorable Moments in Video form at “Watch MY Memorable Moments”.

They can sing & upload their memorable songs under “Sing with Me” competition, & they can write & upload their memorable moments along with their pictures in the third competition. There is a great chance for the LG Viewty mobile phone winners to win fabulous prizes including NoteBook PC by uploading their Viewty mobile phones’ IMEI number. Each competition involves personalised entries, which will be voted on by the public.

The Prizes for the existing campaign includes notebook, home theatre system, Viewty mobile phones, MP3 players, DVD players, Portable DVD players, car audio systems and USBs. The prizes will be given away on a monthly basis. Additionally, monthly prizes will be given away for referring friends to the website.

More than 63,000 visitors had visited the campaign website last year of which 2800 from 31 different countries registered themselves on the microsite.

A total of 169 prizes were distributed to the winners from 12 different countries across the region. The prizes included notebook PC, Shine mobile phones, portable DVD players, DVD players, MP3 players & Lebanese renowned singer, Nawal Zoghbi CDs. The top participating countries were Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Algeria, Syria and the UAE.

Launched last November in the UAE market, the professional-level camera phone, LG Viewty, received a wave of great reviews from the local media and is still among the top mobiles in terms of coverage.

It has also achieved remarkable sales records that surpassed expectations with 25,000 units sold in the UAE alone since its introduction.
