EIG sponsors First International Conference on Arabs' and Muslims' History of Sciences

Emirates Investment Group, a leading investment firm in the Middle East, has announced its support and sponsorship of the First International Conference on Arabs' and Muslims' History of Sciences, organized under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the UAE Supreme Council, on March 24-27 at the University of Sharjah.
Entitled "Arabs and Muslims' Scientific Contributions to Humanity", the conference, organized by the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Sharjah, will be held in collaboration with the College of Shari'a and Islamic Studies, University of Sharjah, and the Arab Union of Astronomy and Space Sciences (AUASS).
"By sponsoring this major gathering, we follow in the footsteps of our great leaders, particularly HH Dr Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qassimi, Ruler of Sharjah, Member of the UAE Supreme Council and Supreme President and Chairman of Sharjah University, and emulate their commitment to fostering scientific, literary, intellectual, artistic and cultural gatherings," added Sheikh Tariq.
"The emirate's support for academic conferences goes hand-in-hand with the methodology envisaged by HH Dr Sheikh Sultan to strengthen the country's scientific potential and provide the best possible means for Sharjah to become a sought-after destination for scientists and researchers from different countries and with varied specializations".
Last week, EIG sponsored the Fifth International Workshop on Signal Processing and its Applications as part of the joint cooperation between the Group and the University of Sharjah and in furtherance of efforts exerted to boost various scientific activities, particularly those that fit within the country's aggressive plans for ensuring a well-integrated, knowledge-intensive economy, according to Sheikh Tariq.
The First International Conference on Arabs' and Muslims' History of Sciences aims to enhance communication among scientists and researchers concerned with the history of sciences, highlight the impact of Muslim scientists on the advancement of civilization, and document the testimonials of non-Muslim scientists that recognize Muslims' scientific achievements.
The gathering will focus on a number of major themes, primarily the scientific paradigm in Islamic civilization, where a number of issues will be thoroughly addressed, including "Science and Mind in Islam", "Impact of Muslims' methods of scientific research on the development of science", and "Man and the Universe from an Islamic Perspective".
Another important theme is the contributions of Muslim scientists in the following fields: Astronomy, Space and Weather Sciences; Astronomical Observatories and Astronomical Applications in Islamic Sharia'; Humanities; Medical Sciences; Basic and Applied Sciences (Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Geosciences); Islamic Arts; Industrial Applications, Engineering and Mechanical Sciences; Agriculture, Soil, and Irrigation Sciences; Geography; and Oceanography.
"Muslims' contributions towards enhancing the peaceful coexistence among civilizations" will also feature highly on the conference's agenda. Participants will also touch on the "Scientific interaction between civilizations from an Islamic perspective", another important theme which will address a number of key issues, including "Principles of scientific interaction in Islam"; "Means of scientific convergence"; and "Non-Muslims' recognitions of Muslims' scientific achievements: Application and Samples".
