Ras Laffan and community outreach

As part of Ras Laffan Industrial City and its End-Users social responsibility and the continuous strive to reach out to the local community, RLC held a meeting mid last week with the Al Khor and Dakhira community representatives to provide feedback on environmental and social projects.
The meeting chaired by Sheikh Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Acting Director Ras Laffan, was attended as well by Health, Safety and Environment officials from RLC and End-Users.
All attendees appreciated the effort made by Ras Laffan and in particular Sheikh Khalid for attending and chairing the meeting and valued the contribution of Ras Laffan and its End-Users towards the social services provided to the community.
Issues discussed include concerns from the community with regards to the lack of benefits that major projects at RLC bring to the community.
The meeting also discussed environmental related matters including air quality, waste water management, solid waste management, traffic volume and traffic diversion.
Dr. Albeldawi, Head of Environment at RLC, presented several examples of the means and mechanism that Ras Laffan is following to reduce or eliminate the environmental impacts and emphasized that several forums has been initiated including medical forum, police forum, and labour forum, and noted that projects were implemented to reduce the impact of the labors visiting Al-Khor and Dakhira community.
All attendees agreed to form an official committee comprising members of companies working within RLC and the Local Community representatives to discuss community proposals and ideas and to enhance people environmental awareness.
In response to the community, Sheikh Khalid provided constructive reply to all issues of concerns. He also emphasized RLC's commitment towards maintaining direct interaction and supported the idea of forming a committee to discuss issues of concerns and projects initiatives that can be sponsored by the End-Users.
