Milan Fashion Week is the third destination on the international fashion week circuit - London, New York, Milan, Paris and Abu Dhabi - attracting hundreds of Italian and international designers and fashion editors from around the world.
Opening to a loud applause, Milia M showcased her 'Girls at Dawn' 2008/2009 collection on Friday 22 February. Inspired from the colours and moods from the moments between night and day, her collection comprised sensual and chic ready to wear suitable for day or evening wear.
The rich palette of gold, bronze, black, ecru and antique Middle Eastern motif embroidery added to the feminine edginess of the collection that received tremendous interest from hundreds of buyers, media, fashion industry executives and celebrities.
'It was incredible taking part as the first Arab designer and to showcase my collection in Milan,' said Milia Maroun. 'This was a very special moment for me and I'm grateful for the wonderful response my collection received.'
Milia M had been selected by Maven Corporate, creators and organisers of Abu Dhabi Fashion Week, and Camera Nazionale della Moda Italiana, organisers of the Milan Fashion Week, to present her creations at the event.
Alice Teeuwen, President of Maven Corporate, said, 'We were very delighted to see the huge response Milia M's collection received and feel proud that Abu Dhabi Fashion Week was behind her participation in Milan. Our aim was to bring the amazing creativity from the Arab region to the attention of the international fashion world and we are incredibly pleased at the results achieved.'
Whilst Milia M was the first, and only, Arabian designer showing in Milan this year, the Abu Dhabi Fashion Week will showcase the 'next wave' of Arabian designers hoping to make their mark in the international industry. Alongside will be a number of leading international guest designers seeking to strengthen their position in the rapidly growing fashion markets of the Middle East, South Asia and North Africa.
The Abu Dhabi Fashion Week has been created by Maven Corporate as part of the initiatives underway to develop the UAE as a new fashion hub in the region. It will form part of the international fashion week circuit that take place in the following order: New York, London, Milan, Paris and, now, Abu Dhabi. The event is supported by the Abu Dhabi government and many of the leading corporations of Abu Dhabi which include the Foundation Sponsor ALDAR Properties, Gold Sponsor Mubadala, Official Airline Etihad, and Hair & Make-Up Sponsor Lancome.
