Data in the latest IDC Worldwide Quarterly Security Appliance Tracker, March 2008 confirmed:

- Fortinet is the No. 1 vendor in the two enterprise UTM price band segments for both factory revenue and units shipped
- Fortinet is the overall leader in UTM factory revenue for Western Europe and Asia Pacific for all of 2007 and Q4 2007
Ken Xie, president, founder and CEO of Fortinet said:
"As the latest IDC data shows, Fortinet maintained our UTM market lead and grew our position in the overall network security appliance market in 2007 - validating the increased market adoption of Fortinet solutions. Enterprises and service provider customers of all sizes are realizing the unique benefits of Fortinet's highly flexible and scalable platform, which allows for network security consolidation to meet a wide array of varied requirements and reduce overall total cost of ownership".
According to IDC, UTM security appliance products include multiple security features integrated into one device.
To be included in this category, as opposed to other Threat Management appliance segments, UTM appliances must contain the ability to perform network firewalling, network intrusion detection and prevention, and gateway antivirus.
All of the capabilities need not be utilized, but the functions must exist inherently in the appliance. In addition to the mandatory applications, UTM appliances may also host other security or networking features.
Megha Kumar, Research Analyst for Software - MEA Region at IDC Middle East & Africa said, "Companies seeking one stop solutions to protect their infrastructure will contribute to the growth in popularity of UTM vendors such as Fortinet in the region. The Gulf States Security Market has seen an aggressive year on year growth of nearly 60% in the region".
