RJ report 22% increase in the number of passengers

In February 2008, RJ transported 22% more passengers than during the same month last year. The Royal Jordanian fleet transported 169,000 passengers in February 2008, and 140,000 passengers in the same month in 2007.

RJ President/CEO Samer Majali stressed the importance of this remarkable increase in February, a winter month that usually experiences a decline in the number of passengers, especially as it came after the Hajj and holiday season. He pointed out that the growth in the number of passengers flying with RJ became a characteristic for the entire year, not only during the summer, as witnessed earlier.

Majali attributed the great demand on travel to the overall improvement in air and ground services, the implementation of advanced IT systems in the fields of electronic ticketing, Internet booking and the self service check in at the airports. In addition, RJ's young and modern fleet of aircraft covers 55 direct destinations out of Amman and 700 destinations worldwide through the oneworld airline alliance of which RJ has been a member since April 1, 2007, the first Arab airline to join any of the three global airline alliances.

Departures and flying hours also witnessed an increase in February this year over last year. The airline operated 2,412 departures in February this year, marking an increase of 22%, and flying hours reached 7,147 in February, a 23% increase over February 2007. Transported freight also went up by the same rates.

Royal Jordanian, which operates 27 airliners, is continuing its fleet modernization program. On March 13 this year, the airline received its first Airbus A319 out of four which will join the fleet this year and the beginning of next year. Two Airbus A321s will be assimilated in the fleet in April and May this year, whereas an Airbus A321 was phased out last week.
