Umniah acts as catalyst to abolishing computer illiteracy

Alighted with its strong sense of social responsibility, and its aim towards a computer literate community, Umniah announced the launch of its computer training center last month.

Offering a comprehensive 2-week training course on Word, Excel, Windows, Power Point and internet applications, free of charge Umniah designed the course to cater to the career development needs of individuals coming from low and medium income earning households.

More specifically, the center is aimed at benefiting individuals wishing to increase their opportunities for career advancement, housewives wishing to play an active role within the local corporate arena and other community members wishing to increase their levels of computer literacy.

Located at Umniah’s headquarters, the center was officially inaugurated on March 16th 2008 by Umniah’s CEO Mr. Joseph Hanania who gave a welcoming speech on the first day.

The 2 week course will be offered to15 trainees at a time, as Umniah aims to graduate 500 trainees at the end of a 2 months period.

The courses are offered by Umniah’s highly experienced team members, and although only recently launched, the center has already attracted a large number of eager applicants.

Commenting further on the center’s inauguration, Mr. Hanania said, “We are proud to be launching this center in Jordan. Through its services, we aim to provide fellow community members with tools to aid them to improve their computer skills. As active members of this community, we feel that it is our duty to contribute to the personal growth of its members and the growth of the local economy at large'.

Mr. Hanania further added that this initiative was launched inline with his Majesty King Abdullah II’s vision to enhance levels of computer literacy in Jordan, “We hope that through our efforts we will be playing an active role in furthering the careers of fellow Jordanians. On this occasion I invite all community members interested in benefiting from the services we are offering at our center to pay us a visit, as I am confident that this center will be of benefit to many eager Jordanians” , he concluded.

Furthering its commitment to launching innovative communication services in Jordan and the region, Umniah has also pioneered the local market as the first telecommunications operator to introduce the WiMAX technology through its brand name UMAX UMAX is an application that offers wireless internet connectivity and thus serves to increase levels of internet penetration in Jordan.
