Co-ops to import commodities

The Ministry of Economy has said cooperative societies can directly import 15 commodity foodstuffs, cutting out the middlemen and reducing costs. The list includes staples such as powdered and condensed milk, frozen and canned vegetables, chicken, oil, rice, flour, fish and meat products, tea, coffee, cheese, pasta, sugar, baby food and formula and nappies (diapers). The Ministry hopes it will help stabilise food prices.
