Editor in Egypt jailed

The editor-in-chief of Egyptian daily Al-Dustur has been jailed for six months, after he wrote rumours about President Hosni Mubarak's health. Ibrahim Eissa was charged with spreading false information that was damaging to the public interest and national stability. The maximum penalty was three years in prison. Originally due to be tried in a state security court, where there is no leave to appeal, he was eventually convicted in an ordinary court, so can appeal the sentence.
