Sama Dubai completes first environmental responsibility campaign

  • United Arab Emirates: Thursday, March 27 - 2008 at 10:42
  • PRESS RELEASE

Sama Dubai, the international real estate investment and development arm of Dubai Holding, has successfully concluded its first Sama Dubai Environmental Responsibility Campaign to raise employees' understanding of sustainable development and enlist their involvement in safeguarding and protecting the environment.

The awareness campaign was the first in a series of activities promoting the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.

To be organised twice a year, each campaign will focus on one of the company's core CSR issues such as environment, health, and community involvement.

The Sama Dubai Environmental Responsibility Campaign highlighted environmental friendly measures, including green products and drew the participation of vendors from various organizations and companies in the UAE including Envirophone, which invited employees to recycle their old and used phones through a drop box.

Emirates Diving Association, Emirates Green Building Council, General Electric, Emirates Environmental Group, DEWA and Nomad Ocean Adventures also took part in the campaign.

Farhan Faraidooni, Executive Chairman, Sama Dubai said: "Policies on sustainable development are key to our long-term strategic direction across all our local and regional projects, and the campaign underpinned Sama Dubai's commitment to preserve the environment.

"CSR is one of our primary strategic objectives to integrate economic, environmental and social concerns into our regular decision making process. In doing this, we seek to turn challenges into opportunities. We actively implement environmental impact assessments and set targets for comprehensive audits from the construction phase until the project's completion".

The campaign brought together Sama Dubai's staff members, encouraging them to contribute by making a change, not only at the corporate level, but also in their personal lives.

Some of the recommended measures included adopting environmental protection routines and habits in addition to raising awareness on the importance of building a sustainable community.

An electronic book was distributed to all Sama Dubai employees providing them with practical tips on what they could do at the office and at home with regard to energy and water conservation and minimization of waste.

Sama Dubai's primary aim, across all its awareness campaigns, is to underpin the role of CSR in the business sector and the community.

While seeking to provide an overall understanding of the company's CSR initiatives, Sama Dubai endeavours to promote its environmental stewardship practices through road-shows, and environment related activities.
