It's 'lights out' at Fairmont Dubai

- PRESS RELEASE
One of the city skyline's most prominent exterior lights will go dark for sixty minutes beginning at 8 pm on Saturday, March 29.
In support of Earth Hour, the Fairmont Dubai has compiled some facts about lighting usage and tips on energy conservation in the hospitality sector.
A light bulb may be a tiny consideration in global climate change, but consider the total impact of all light bulbs in a hotel or resort - lighting typically accounts for between 15 and 25% of total electricity consumption in the average hotel.
By replacing light bulbs or entire fixtures with energy efficient alternatives, a hotel can help preserve energy resources and reduce the risk of global warming, while saving money and energy in maintenance costs.
Energy efficient lights produce less heat and therefore lower the demand on air conditioning systems.
Did you know that a 13 watt compact fluorescent light provides the same light as a 60 watt incandescent, lasts about 10 times longer and uses 70 - 80% less energy than its incandescent alternative?
When buying replacement fluorescent tubes, ask for the special extra efficient type. A standard, four-foot (1.2 m) florescent tube uses 40 watts, while the energy efficient variety uses only 34 watts. This translates into another 15% savings in power costs and in energy consumed.
While their initial cost is higher, compact florescent lights or CFLs will save an enormous amount of energy and money when compared with regular incandescent bulbs. The average lifespan of one CFL is greater than the lifespan of nine incandescent lights. That means lower maintenance costs and less garbage in landfills. An average CFL, over the its lifespan, prevents nearly 200 kg of coal from being burned and over 360 kg of carbon dioxide and almost 9 kg of sulfur dioxide from being produced and released into the atmosphere.
