  • PRESS RELEASE

Abu Dhabi Women's College has entered into an agreement with the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation (ADMAF) to support cultural and arts activities for students.

The announcement was made on the ADWC campus by Dr. Brad Cook, Director of ADWC, and Her Excellency Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo, Founder of ADMAF. The agreement includes sponsorships for international trips as well as art exhibitions to showcase student work.

Under the patronage of His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Mabarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, ADMAF was established by H.E. Kanoo to advance classical music, the arts, education, culture and creativity among the nationals and residents of Abu Dhabi. The organization develops arts programs and cultural and educational programs with leading national and international organizations, institutions and individuals.

Under the agreement with ADWC, ADMAF sponsored a recent trip to South Africa for six ADWC Applied Media students. The students attended the 11th Design Indaba Conference, an internationally recognized forum which covers all aspects of graphic and arts design. ADMAF will also sponsor ADWC students to travel to Toronto, Canada, to attend the Hot Docs Festival, the largest documentary festival in North America. Students will learn the art and craft of creating and producing documentary films. Upon their return to the UAE, students will be tasked with applying their newly acquired knowledge and skills to create short documentary films.

"ADMAF's support embraces music, visual and performing arts, as well as educational trips and programs," stated H.E. Kanoo. "ADMAF's work with universities and schools in Abu Dhabi was established as a source of inspiration to shape creative thinking, discover young talent, and build on our rich tradition and culture to open new artistic, cultural and educational horizons with the world. ADMAF is a strong supporter of the Higher Colleges of Technology and we are very pleased to support artistic and cultural opportunities for ADWC students."

ADMAF's agreement with ADWC will also cover exhibitions of student art work, both on the ADWC campus and in other venues. In addition, ADMAF will sponsor artists to come to the ADWC campus to hold professional workshops with students. For the current academic year, ADMAF has sponsored artist and set designer Kiran Chandra from India, and graphic design artists Chris Meyer and Tim Smits from Australia to hold events at ADWC.

"We are so very grateful to ADMAF for their stellar support of the arts and culture," said Dr. Cook. "The lives of hundreds of ADWC students have been enriched and expanded because of ADMAF's incredible generosity through travel opportunities, world class concerts, lectures and exhibits. We look forward to continuing this partnership which greatly enhances the lives of our students."
