Crescent Petroleum sponsors Iraqi universities at Global Education Conference in London

Crescent Petroleum has sponsored three leading Iraqi universities to attend the GetEnergy 2008 Global Education and Networking Event, held in London this year, on 26-28 March.

Within the context of its corporate social responsibility and its dedication to Iraqi energy sector, the Company is providing full sponsorship for the University of Baghdad, Basra University and the American University of Iraq - Sulaymania (AUI-S), to attend the three-day international conference and exhibition.

The GetEnergy Conference & Exhibition annually attracts more than 400 people from over 35 countries representing national oil and gas companies, international oil and gas companies, governments, universities, and training providers, with the goal of forging relationships between these various institutions to enhance global training and education related to the energy sector.

Crescent Petroleum sponsored the participation of the three prominent Iraqi universities to at the event in order to pave the way for them to establish sustainable long-term working relationships with other educational and training institutions across the world. It is the first time universities from Iraq have participated in the annual international event, and the special focus of the three universities' participation will be in the fields of Petroleum Engineering, Business and Economic majors.

Dr. Abbas Al Husaini, Secretary General of Iraq Higher Education Organising Committee, expressed his appreciation by saying: "The students and faculty of the three Iraqi Universities will use this unique platform to establish collaborative working relationships with leading international oil and gas companies to develop new research projects with far-reaching positive impact on the energy sector in Iraq and the next generation of students and professionals."

Professor Dr. Owen Cargol, Regent Chancellor of The American University of Iraq - Sulaimani (AUIS), also commended the role of Crescent Petroleum in supporting Iraqi educational institutions at the event: "We are grateful for the support of Crescent Petroleum. AUIS will use this opportunity to forge fruitful joint institutional partnerships with universities from around the world and the various energy companies to make AUIS a regional center of excellence in all research aspects of the oil and gas industry in Iraq and beyond."

Luay Jawad Al-Khaitib, Crescent Petroleum's Iraq Country Director, expressed his deep satisfaction at seeing the three prominent Iraqi universities participating in this year's GetEnergy event, adding: "Crescent Petroleum is committed to supporting the education and training needs for the next generation of Iraqi oil & gas sector professionals, which will be critical to Iraq's future economic health. As an Iraqi, it gives me great pleasure to see these three leading universities from all parts of Iraq participating in such a beneficial and prestigious international event."

Headquartered in Sharjah in the UAE, Crescent Petroleum has offices in Baghdad, Erbil and Basra in Iraq, has carried out studies and training for the Iraqi Ministry of Oil and prepared a full field development plan for the Ratawi Field in southern Iraq.

In partnership with its affiliate Dana Gas, Crescent Petroleum is also currently implementing a major integrated natural gas project in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq, under service agreements signed with the regional authorities, to produce, process and deliver gas supplies urgently needed for power generation. The combined project investment of $650m is the largest private-sector investment currently being undertaken in Iraq, and involves the construction of 180km of pipelines and the production and processing of 300 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, and will save Iraq $2bn a year in imported fuels.
