The first of its kind for the SEDD, the meeting was attended by H.E Ali Bin Salem Al Mahmoud, General Manager of the Sharjah Economic Development Department, Khalid Saif, Director of the Registration and Licensing Department, Nawal Askar, Deputy Director of the Economic and Public Relations Departments, Fahad Ahmed, Deputy Director of Commercial and Protection Department and a number of elite businessmen and investors.

Comments on the performance of the department and suggestions to improve the level of service were exchanged during the meeting, with the aim of fulfilling all the requirements for sustainable economic growth, which is the mutual goal of all the parties. The discussions were based on transparency and openness to positive and constructive ideas, with the ambition of boosting the already established investor-friendly environment in the emirate, and meeting the requirements of investors and businessmen, alike.

The major functions and duties of each of the SEDD's departments were presented to the clients in order to clarify the frequently misunderstood roles of each of these departments. The work mechanism of inspectors was clarified during the extensive meeting, as was the difference between the fraud and customer protection departments, so that clients will henceforth go directly to the proper department to finalize the particular procedures required for their purposes.

Al Mahmoud affirmed that the department will study all the suggestions proposed by its clients in order to reach the desired results, and will inform the clients about future developments and trends via public notifications and regular meetings. These developments will include innovative methods to facilitate procedures and enhance the level of service.

One major point of concern was the necessity to adhere to Arabic trade names on companies' trade licenses, in accordance with the Arab identity of the emirate and its cultural position. Al Mahmoud warned that strict action will be taken against perpetrators, but stated that international brand names were exempt from this rule.

Al Mahmoud said that the SEDD is set to make giant strides in terms of customer service and will launch a new licensing system to upgrade the level of performance and facilitate procedures, thus saving time and effort.

The clients praised the new initiatives introduced by the SEDD, and see it as a further evidence of the SEDD's keenness to achieve excellence in customer service.
